Google continues to push the boundaries of AI-powered search. While the core AI Overviews and AI Mode features launched earlier (2024–2025), recent expansions and refinements have kept the momentum strong into mid-2026.

Recent AI Search Milestone: Rollout in France (July 22–23, 2026)

As of July 22, 2026, Google officially launched AI Overviews in France, making AI-generated summaries available at the top of search results for French users. This rollout brings the feature to one of the remaining major markets in Europe, following regulatory and localization efforts.

Honestly, it doesn't feel very user-friendly. When I search for something, I expect to see website search results, but instead it immediately shows an AI-generated answer. I'd prefer to see the search results first and have the AI answer as an optional summary.
